80% of Women Recognize Value of Self-Nurture, Yet Few Care for Selves as They Care for Others. In addition to that, African American women are 60 percent more likely to have high blood pressure than non-Hispanic white women, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health. They are also more likely to have hypertension than Black men—which means Black women are one of the highest risk groups for high blood pressure in the nation.
